Big news from last night’s Council AGM! The Redditch Conservatives are officially back in power, striking a collaborative deal with Reform and Independent councillors to bring ambition, strength, and security back to our town.
This begun with a motion to remove the Labour leadership of Redditch. This motion had cross party support and was successfully carried and removed Cllr Sharon Harvey as Leader of the Council.
Following that, Cllr Matt Dormer was nominated by Cllr Craig Warhurst and elected as the new Leader of the Council! Matt returns to the role with 6 years of proven leadership experience, ready to hit the ground running.
This new administration brings together an experienced team focused entirely on putting Redditch residents first.
The Conservative Team:
• Cllr Matt Dormer (Leader): Regeneration, Planning, Leisure, Economic Development, and Partnerships
• Cllr Craig Warhurst (Deputy Leader): Finance, Performance, Engagement, and Governance
• Cllr Brandon Clayton: Environmental Services
• Cllr Gemma Monaco: Climate Change and Biodiversity
The Independent Members:
• Cllr Ashley Monk: Housing and Communities
• Cllr Wanda King: Executive Member without Portfolio
The under investment and lack of ambition of Labour ends now. This leadership is ready to offer the strength and stability Redditch needs as we navigate the upcoming LGR, making sure our town gets the absolute best deal possible.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us. It’s time to bring real pride and ambition back to Redditch!
Cllr Matt Dormer, Leader of Redditch Borough Council, said:
"I was honoured to be elected Leader of Redditch Borough Council.
"I want to thank fellow councillors for placing their trust in me at an important time for our borough.
"My focus now is simple:
- Stability
- Strong leadership
- Delivering for the people of Redditch.
"While political differences will always exist, residents rightly expect councillors to work constructively, responsibly and in the best interests of the town.
"Redditch faces significant challenges, but also significant opportunities, and I am determined that this administration will focus on delivering real results for our communities.
"I would also like to thank officers, members across the chamber and everyone who continues to serve our borough.
"The work starts immediately."
Cllr Craig Warhurst said:
"Conservatives are back at the helm of Redditch Borough Council, we are committed and dedicated to delivering for all residents of Redditch. We will ensure that Redditch has a powerful voice in the government imposed move to a Unitary Council in 2 years."
Cllr Gemma Monaco said:
"Yes, we are back!
"Believe me, this isn't about political points scoring. This is about steering the council through the final 2 years before unitary and doing the absolute best for Redditch.
"Between the 4 of us we have a lot of experience and we will deliver for you - the people who we represent."
