A REDDITCH borough councillor is taking to the worldwide web – to get closer to the residents of his ward.
Coun Salman Akbar (Con, Crabbs Cross) is conducting an online surgery for local people on Saturday, October 17 from 11am to 1pm to discuss any issues they are facing.
“Councillor surgeries are a great way to interact with residents and understand their issues,” said Coun Akbar.
“However, with Covid-19,these opportunities are limited, and I have been getting most of my case work via telephone and email.
“With most things moving online, I am excited to try out the ‘e-surgery’ where we will have the option to switch on the video.
“Residents are worried about catching the virus and the consequences of lockdown, especially on reducing contact with others.
“With this e-surgery, I want to provide the people of Crabbs Cross with an opportunity to speak to me and raise any concerns.”
Coun Akbar’s surgery will be the first with other Tory councillors planning e-surgeries over the coming weeks as part of their ‘community conversation’ campaign.
Residents of Crabbs Cross should email: email@example.com to book a slot.
Conservative Group Leader Coun Matt Dormer said: “I’m pleased Coun Akbar is the first to launch an e-surgery as part of our wider commitment to engage with the public.”
