WE seem to be talking about active travel more than ever – and this is great as we look to build back greener here in Redditch and across the UK.
During the lockdown we saw massive increases in people walking and cycling.
This appetite for active travel must be built on. We just can’t go back to the way things were before the pandemic.
You may have seen the Government recently published ‘Gear change: a bold vision for cycling and walking’.
It’s the Government’s most ambitious plans yet to boost cycling and walking. It sets out its visIon of thousands of miles of protected bike lanes, cycle training for everyone and bikes available on prescription.
It’s often said how well built Redditch is for more bike lanes, so, working with local colleagues, we’re determined to be ambitious and improve cycling in our town, as well as all forms of active travel.
We must embed the benefits of walking and cycling into how we live, work and get around – and we’re in a great position to do just that in Redditch.
This is why I would like to get your views on active travel here in Redditch.
Today I’m launching a survey which you can find here: www.rachelmaclean.uk/active-travel-in-redditch/ so you can have your say.
I’d really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to answer the questions. Your views will be really important in our work to boost active travel.
I have seen there is a lot of cross party support for this agenda in our town, so I do hope as many people as possible will take part.
Whatever our differences, I’m sure we can all agree that improving health and wellbeing, as well as protecting our environment is an agenda we can all unite around.
